Van driver tries to get away from police - but ends up stuck in the mud

A driver has been arrested after failing to stop for police and getting down a public footpath.

Officers signalled for the man to pull over on Bolton Road in Ashton-in-Makerfield.

While trying to get away, police say he took a wrong turn and drove down a rural path.

His vehicle then became stuck in some mud.

GMP say he failed a roadside preliminary drug wipe and tested positive for cocaine and cannabis.

He has since been arrested while officers obtain a blood sample for an evidential test.
