'Van driver' hits boy, 12, then gets out and attacks him

A 12-year-old boy was hit by a van while riding his bike and then attacked by the driver.

Police confirmed the boy had been cycling along Broad Lane, in Norris Green, at around 8.10pm Wednesday when he was involved in a crash with a van.

It is reported that the occupant of the van then got out of his vehicle and assaulted the boy before driving away.

The child was taken to hospital with an arm injury.

Pictures taken by a witness shows four emergency service vehicles outside a row of shops on the Broad Lane Precinct.

Police are now appealing for witnesses after the schoolboy was hit by a Citreon Berlingo and an investigation is underway to trace the van.

Northwest Ambulance Service also confirmed it received a call around 8.11pm last night and attended with ambulance and a rapid response vehicle.

A spokeswoman confirmed the boy suffered minor injuries.

A spokeswoman for Merseyside Police said: "We are appealing for witnesses after a  12 year-old boy was in collision with a van in Norris Green.

"The boy had been cycling along Broad Lane at around 8.10pm last night, Wednesday 16th October, when he was in collision with a Citroen Berlingo.

"It is reported that the occupant of the van then got out of his vehicle and assaulted the boy before driving away. The boy was taken to hospital with an arm injury.

"An investigation is underway and enquiries are ongoing to trace the van."
