Van driver fighting for life following crash with tipper truck in Salford

A man is fighting for life in hospital after a van and tipper truck crashed on a busy road in Salford.

Emergency services were called to Cadishead Way following reports of a collision involving a Toyota Hilux D-4D and a Scania Tipper truck.

The 22-year-old van driver was taken to hospital with serious injuries just after 3.15pm.

He remains in hospital in a critical condition.

No arrests have been made and Greater Manchester Police are appealing for witnesses.

Sgt Joe Barron, of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “First and foremost our thoughts are very much with the young man and his family and what must be an incredibly difficult time.

“I would appeal to anyone that was in the area at the time and saw either vehicle in the lead up to the collision to please get in touch with us, as even the smallest detail could prove vital to our investigation.

“We are also particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have dash cam footage as we continue with our enquiries and work hard to piece together exactly what happened.”

Cadishead Way was shut in both directions for six hours after the collision while accident investigators worked at the scene.

The closure, between the B5320 Liverpool Road and B5471 Brinell Drive, has reopened.

Anyone with information should contact police on 0161 856 4741, quoting incident number 1777 of 08/08/19. Reports can also be made anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
