Van driver dies after serious crash on Dumfries road

A man has died after a single vehicle crash in Dumfries and Galloway on Thursday afternoon.

Emergency services raced to the B729 Dunscore to Carsphairn road around 4.10pm yesterday after a black Citroen Nemo travelling north left the road.

It then crashed into a field just south of Dunscore, near Throughgate.

The driver and only occupant of the van could not be saved and was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

Cops quickly locked down the road as collision investigations took place at the scene.

It later reopened around 9.45pm.

Enquiries remain ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the crash and officers are urging anyone who witnessed the collision to get in touch.

Sergeant Jonnny Edgar of Police Scotland’s Road Policing Unit said: “Our enquiries are ongoing to understand why the van left the road and our thoughts are with the man’s family and friends at this time.

“The van was travelling north towards Dunscore and we’re eager to hear from anyone who may have seen it prior to the crash, or witnessed the collision itself.

“Any drivers recording on the B729 yesterday afternoon with dash cam are asked to check their systems and provide any relevant footage to us as soon as possible.”

Anyone with information is being urged to contact Police Scotland on 101 and quote incident number 2355 of 7 October 2021.
