Van destroyed by fire in suspected arson attack outside home

A suspected arson attack in the early hours of Sunday morning saw a van burnt out and three cars badly damaged.

North Wales Live reports that the vehicles were parked on the driveway outside a property on Nant Road in Connah's Quay, Flintshire.

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service sent a Deeside crew out at 3.23am and the flames were brought under control later this morning. It is not thought that anyone was injured in the incident.

A bystander who asked not to be named said it looked like the van was targeted with the fire spreading to the other vehicles.

He said: "It looks like the van has borne the brunt of it but the cars were also badly damaged.

"There was also a flat-bed recovery truck, but that looks to have escaped the worst of it."

A North Wales Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said the cause was most probably "deliberate ignition".

The fire started in one vehicle and spread to four others, the spokesman added.

North Wales Police was approached for comment.

It's understood a forensic examination of the scene by crime scene and fire investigators will be carried out later today.
