Van de Beek and Lingard to start - Manchester United predicted line-up vs West Ham

Manchester United host West Ham at Old Trafford in the Carabao Cup third round on Wednesday night.

United secured the three points against West Ham in the Premier League on Sunday thanks to Jesse Lingard's goal and some David de Gea penalty heroics, and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed after that game that Lingard would start in midweek against the Irons.

"He’ll play [Lingard], of course, on Wednesday because we will make a few changes," Solskjaer said after United's 2-1 win in London.

Regarding any more team news hints for this Carabao Cup fixture, it was confirmed on Tuesday afternoon that Anthony Elanga and Alex Telles will be named in United's squad to play West Ham - the latter has now successfully recovered from an ankle injury.

That means Telles can come in at left-back to give Luke Shaw a well-deserved rest while Diogo Dalot and Eric Bailly can also start, however, it's not yet clear whether Victor Lindelof will be declared fit enough to play, but if he is, he'll likely start in defence.

Dean Henderson and De Gea underwent a fierce battle for the number one spot at United last season and, with the Spaniard in excellent form for the Reds this term, the 24-year-old might have to settle for appearances in cup competitions for now.

Nemanja Matic and Fred can play in the double pivot, giving the Brazilian the chance to bounce back from a string of underwhelming performances, and Donny van de Beek can get the opportunity he's been desperate for in the creative midfield role.

Jadon Sancho can use this game against an anticipated 'weaker' West Ham side than Sunday's game to build some confidence. Jesse Lingard is most comfortable from the left flank and he can help forgotten man Anthony Martial to take the game to the visitors.

Predicted United XI vs West Ham: Henderson, Dalot, Lindelof, Bailly, Telles, Matic, Fred, Sancho, Van de Beek, Lingard, Martial.
