Van de Beek and Bailly to start — Manchester United predicted line up vs Brighton

Manchester United are likely to give Donny van de Beek and Eric Bailly their chance to pin down regular spots in their side, in Wednesday night's Carabao Cup game against Brighton.

United take on the Seagulls at the Amex Stadium for the second time in four days, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer expected to rotate his squad after a chaotic 3-2 league win over Graham Potter's side in the Premier League.

Solskjaer admitted United were still finding their match fitness after a poor performance albeit in a victory on Saturday lunchtime. And he is expected to make sweeping changes, with Dean Henderson, Fred and Jesse Lingard all likely to come into the United side.

Captain Harry Maguire tends to play most games and may be the only player to keep their starting spot, with Timothy Fosu-Mensah, Scott McTominay and Juan Mata all in contention, too. United are looking to book their spot in the fifth round of the League Cup after beating Luton 3-0 in their first game in the competition last week.

Luke Shaw could be among those rested for the clash, but insisted it was a major change for United's fringe stars to stake a claim for a more regular spot in the side.

"Of course it’s a competition we want to win, but I think it gives the manager that opportunity to give chances to other players that are on the bench and on the fringe, who are training very hard to get chances,” Shaw told MUTV.

“I think games like this are perfect for them. It’s good that we’ve got a very strong squad with players who are ready to play and are ready to take their chance. I’m sure the players are looking forward to that on Wednesday.

“Matches are coming thick and fast and, like I say, they’re competitions that we want to be strong in, we want to be winning and be challenging in. But it’s also a chance for players to get game time and sharpness."

Predicted United XI: Henderson; Fosu-Mensah, Bailly, Maguire, Williams; Fred, McTominay; Mata, Van de Beek, Lingard; Ighalo.
