One resident said on Facebook: "Absolute idiotic, loads of kids live in that certain area! Heard a huge bang and got a fright of my life!

"Surprised it didn’t wake up my two-year-old whose also in the back bedroom."

The van fire is the third of its kind in the town in two weeks

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “We were alerted at 11.25pm on Sunday, March 1 to reports of a vehicle on fire in Kilmarnock.

“Operations Control mobilised one appliance to the town’s Ardgour Place, where firefighters were met by a well-developed fire which had taken hold of a van.

“Firefighters extinguished the fire and made the area safe before leaving the scene.

“There were no casualties.”
