Valerij Tomarenko: Body found in search for missing tourist who was due to visit Fringe

A body has been found in the search for missing German tourist Valerij Tomarenko.

The 58-year-old was reported missing on Thursday, 15 August with police issuing a public appeal for information in a bid to help trace him.

He arrived in Edinburgh on Monday, August 12, and was staying in Springburn, Glasgow. He was due to visit the Edinburgh Festival Fringe on the Friday before catching a flight home on the Sunday.

However the last his family had heard from him was on the Wednesday and the alarm was raised.

It then emerged that he may have gone hillwalking during the week, with his Hyundai i10 car found parked at Ardrossan Ferry Terminal.

Police have now confirmed that a body has been found on the island of Arran. The discovery was made at around 11.30am on Thursday.

Formal identification is yet to take place, but his family have been informed.

A police spokesperson said: "A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."
