Valentino Lazaro admits his future at Newcastle United is unclear

Valentino Lazaro says he is not thinking about what will happen at the end of his loan deal with Newcastle United.

The Austrian international signed in January from Inter Milan until the end of his current campaign.

But the deal was just a straight loan, and there is no buyout clause in the arrangement between Newcastle and the San Siro club.

Lazaro was just starting to find his feet with United before European football was hit with the outbreak of the coronavirus with play suspended until at least early April.

In an interview with the club programme, Lazaro said: "I've had a lot of questions about summer already.

"But what I can say is that I'm fully focused here – I wouldn't have come here if I wouldn't be committed to the club.

"I'm happy to be here, and just focus on that.

"I'm not really thinking about just my own future right now. I want to help the club achieve their goals and, of course, show myself as well."

Lazaro was sent off in only his second game for Newcastle at Crystal Palace.

But reflecting on his first few weeks at the club, he said: "I had a pretty good start here in training with my team, but then, of course, the first games came and we didn't win.

"Then I had the red card.

"I think I had a pretty good game as well until the red card.

"Then to not be able to play the next week at home was a bit tough, and now I'm more than happy to be back."
