Valentine's Day Ireland: Study exposes top gifts women don't want to receive this year

Sex Toys are one gift that most women don’t want to unwrap this Valentine’s Day, it has been revealed.

Whether you plan on curling up with a movie or squeezing in a Zoom date, a new survey has shown that 58% of us plan to celebrate the day.

And while we’re prepared to give gifts to our partner, it’s worth noting that 32% of ladies would be mortified to open a sex toy.

The study by Picodi.com asked 11,000 people in 38 countries about their attitudes to Valentine’s Day and Irish people appear to be very romantic.

When it came to gifts, men planned to pick up jewellery (34%), flowers (31%) and Valentine’s Day cards (28%).

Women on the other hand said they are going to buy sweets (25%), tickets to cinema or concert (19%) and food for delivery (17%).

The worst Valentine’s Day gifts according to women are sex toys (35%), teddy bears (31%), small home appliances (22%), money (17%) and sweets (6%).

However for men, a Valentine’s Day card (28%) and sweets (17%) were chosen as the least wanted while underwear, flowers and a sex toy were also not really wanted.

And for gifts that people expected, women anticipated flowers, jewellery, perfumes, clothing or sweets from their significant other, while men expected perfumes, money, a gift card, a Valentine’s Day card or electronics from their partner.

Worldwide, Ireland ranked third for spending on the big day, with €92 on average forked out, while Hong Kong (€102) and the UK (€96) were marginally ahead.

The least romantic countries were the Philippines and Nigeria, with people only spending an average of €24 on gifts.

Looking at other countries, Spanish men chose dinner at a restaurant as their gift while women opted to make something.

In the UK, men usually gave flowers and received sweets from women.
