Valentine's Day Ireland: Dubliners reveal the most romantic things they have ever done

It's Valentine's Day and love is in the air. Dubliners were eager to make up for lost time after celebrating the most romantic day of the year in lockdown in last year.

While some people stuck to traditional pressies like red roses, chocolates, and cards, others chose to go down more adventurous paths like making heart-shaped spaghetti bolognese!

So we went out and asked Dublin people what was the most romantic thing they've ever done on Valentine's Day.

One young man said he paid a whopping €310 for a romantic dinner with a woman he was seeing.

He said: "I took a girl to dinner and the dinner total came out to €310. I paid for all of it and took her to a hotel after."

When asked if they were still together, he laughed and said: "No, not anymore! So that was €310 down the drain. But I'm here getting some flowers for a new girl and I'm going to do the exact same thing tonight."

Making someone a homecooked meal can be a very intimate experience and this Dubliner went above and beyond after he cooked a heart-shaped pasta dinner.

He told Dublin Live: "I made her a spaghetti bolognese in a heart shape. She said it was pretty nice. It was very hard to do so I don’t know if I can do that this year."

We also ran into two gal pals who were determined to ditch the romance and celebrate their friendship instead by buying flowers for each other on Galentine's Day.

They said: "It’s quite popular to celebrate it with friends if you don’t have significant others."

We chatted to one sweet elderly man who said he was taking his wife out for a lovely lunch at The Shelbourne for Valentine's Day.

Another man said the most romantic thing he's ever done was buying a rose for his college lecturer for a bet.

"I’m after buying a rose for my lecturer in college. It’s a bit of a joke between some of my classmates and myself so that’s probably the most romantic thing I’ve ever done.

"I hope he [likes it] because if he doesn’t, it’ll be a bit embarrassing because I’ve a bet to hand it to him in front of the entire class."

Another adorable couple said a mere €20 at a nightclub in Galway was enough for a romantic night out.

We won't spoil the full story so check out our video at the top of the page.
