Valentine's Day climate strike rally to be held by Belfast teens

Student strikers will pledge their love for the Earth at a Valentine's Day rally in Belfast today.

The Cornmarket strike marks one year since monthly student strikes began in the city - and for one of the organisers, her 24th straight week protesting alone.

They will join their protesting peers in rallies held across the globe.

#Do1Thing: Anna Kernaghan

Anna Kernahan won international support after her last solo strike of the decade was shared by fellow teen campaigner, Greta Thunberg.

She said tomorrow's protest would take a different tack to other rallies.

People will be invited to write a "love letter" to the Earth, which organisers will deliver to Stormont.

The 17-year-old said: "Instead of focusing on governments inaction on the climate crisis we will be celebrating our love for Earth and the positive aspects of our home."

Anna has helped form an online coalition for solo teen climate strikes around the world.

She's joined by fellow strikers once a month - but otherwise sits alone.

She said she's proud of the six month milestone.

She added: "It’s been six months and nothing has really changed since that first day. Except one thing and that is that I have a tiny sliver of hope that has replaced the fear I felt on that first day."
