Valencia star Ferran Torres responds to Liverpool and Man Utd transfer links

Valencia star Ferran Torres has poured cold water on rumours linking him with a switch to Liverpool and Man Utd by insisting he is content with life in La Liga.

The Spanish winger, 20, has become a key player for his club side in recent seasons, attracting interest from big clubs around Europe.

Barcelona, Juventus and Borussia Dortmund are also among the sides keeping track of his progress with a view to making a move in the summer.

Torres has a £90million release clause in his contract which carries through into next season, but it seems Valencia have nothing to fear about him jumping ship anytime soon.

"For young people, La Liga is the best league there is," he told Club del Deportista. "It is helping me a lot and I am learning all the time.

"I think I have settled in Valencia and in the division," he added. "Things are going well for me even though the team is on a bad streak, although we think we are going to turn it around."

As Torres states, Valencia were on a poor run prior to the coronavirus outbreak.

They won just won of their previous seven matches in all competitions, slipping to seventh in the La Liga table in the process.

A chance of a top four finish is still on, with just five points separating them from Sevilla in third place.

Torres remains key to their plans for the future, but it seems Valencia would not be totally averse to losing the player, if the comments of sporting director Fernando Gomez are anything to go by, as he talked up a potential transfer to Liverpool.

"He’s skilful, he’s great one-on-one, he’s quick and he even scores goal," Gomez told Tribal Football.

"He also plays on the inside, takes advantage of spaces and can be part of a team that plays on the counter-attack or a dominant team in terms of possession."

Gomez added: "He can perform well in any team and in any league. In England too, of course, at Liverpool or any other team.

"Jurgen Klopp’s system fits him and he is mentally very strong to cope with pressure and demands."
