Vale of Leven Hospital receives glowing report after unannounced inspection

Inspectors have praised the quality of care on offer at the Vale of Leven Hospital, after an unannounced visit last month.

Healthcare Improvement Scotland today (Tuesday) published its findings from the unannounced visit on February 16, with inspectors praising hospital management and infection control teams.

The Covid-19 focused inspection examined various areas of the Vale Hospital, with wards 14 and 15, the Lomond ward and community midwifery unit all inspected.

In the report five areas were singled out as being examples of good practice, with the Vale praised for having a staff member in place at the door to offer guidance and directions.

The hospital was also given merit for its cleanliness and for staff wearing masks at all times, whilst inspectors were impressed by the level of Covid-19 education provided to staff.

Management and the hospital's infection prevention and control team were also praised for their role in supporting nursing staff.

Speaking of their report, Ian Smith, head of quality of care, Healthcare Improvement Scotland, said: “During this inspection, we found that a staff member was available at the hospital entrance to provide guidance and directions to visitors and outpatients.

"The cleanliness of the environment was also very good. Moreover, nursing staff felt they had been well supported by hospital management and by the infection prevention and control team during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“This was a positive inspection of Vale of Leven Hospital resulting in no requirements for NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde to address.”

The full report is available to read on the Health Improvement Scotland website.
