Vale Juniors boss Brian Brown insists Saturday’s clash with big-guns Hurlford United is a free hit for the Alexandria side.
The Vale travel to Ayrshire to take on Darren Henderson’s Premier Division high-fliers in the preliminary round of the West of Scotland League Cup with no fear - despite a mixed start to the season.
Brown said: “Saturday is a free hit.
“We’ve had a few players injured so we’re the walking wounded. But we’ll go down there and enjoy the challenge.
“Eventually that’s where we see the club. We want to be up there with teams like Hurlford.
“We’ll go down there and have a right good go at it and see what we can get.
“Any time we’ve played against the higher division teams we’ve certainly held our own.
“As the manager of the Vale I will never go into a game thinking we’re going to get beat.

“That’s not where anybody at the club wants to be.
“I don’t go into any game thinking we’ll get beaten. Anything can happen along the way.
“We’ll be going down there to give them a bit of a game. If we make a quick start then we’ll see how it goes.”
Meanwhile, the Vale – who thanked Renton-based CPR Resurfacing and William Black for sponsoring their training kits – have been drawn to face Lowland League Edinburgh University at the Millburn in the Challenge Cup.
The tie will take place on Saturday, November 20 with a 1.30pm kick off.
