Vale councillor Anthony Hampton is facing six further charges of historical sexual offences against children

A Vale of Glamorgan councillor is facing six further charges of alleged historical sexual offences against children.

Anthony Hampton, 72 from Barry, has already appeared in court charged with 10 counts of indecent assault and is awaiting trial.

But South Wales Police has confirmed Hampton has now been charged with six further offences of non-recent sexual offences.

The charges relate to two people, who were children at the time of the alleged offences.

Hampton, a councillor for Illtyd, will appear at Cardiff Magistrates Court on October 29.

A South Wales Police spokesman said: "South Wales Police has charged 72-year-old Anthony Hampton from Barry with six further offences of non-recent sexual offences.

"The charges relate to two people, who were children at the time of the alleged offences.

"He will appear at Cardiff Magistrates Court on 29th October.

"Hampton has already appeared in court charged with 10 counts of indecent assault and is awaiting trial."

Hampton, who is a former teacher and cabinet member for education in the Vale , was arrested in January 2018 and charged with 10 counts of indecent assault in December last year.

He was a Conservative councillor but was suspended from the party when the charges were made.
