Vakoun Issouf Bayo in promising Celtic update as loan striker reaches fitness levels 'he has never experienced'

On-loan Celtic striker Vakoun Issouf Bayo has reached fitness levels that were absent when he left the Scottish champions, according to his manager at Toulouse.

The Ivorian joined the Ligue 2 side for the season back in August and despite a brace on his debut he largely started his spell in poor form, at one point going 11 games without finding the net.

But his fortunes have turned around in recent weeks.

He climbed off the bench to score the opener in a 2-0 win over Grenoble Foot earlier this month, a cameo performance that led to a start in the French Cup last week, in which he netted again.

And now his manager over in France, Patrice Garande, reckons he's in a much better condition compared to when he arrived from Parkhead.

In a press conference in which he was asked about his striking options, Garande said: "Whether it is one or the other, it does not change the style of the team profoundly.

"Bayo has shown to be efficient and he is currently in a physical shape he has never experienced since arriving.

"This is an additional option."

Garande then included Bayo from the start on Monday night against FC Sochaux Montbeliard but the striker didn't get on the scoresheet on that occasion.

He was signed by former Parkhead boss Brendan Rodgers in January 2019 - one of his final transfers before leaving for Leicester City - but has so far struggled to settle in at Celtic.
