Vakoun Bayo handed Celtic transfer escape route as Toulouse reveal option to buy stance

Toulouse are set to make a bid to snap up Celtic misfit Vakoun Bayo on a permanent deal this summer.

Bayo impressed during his loan spell in Ligue 2 with 12 goals, including one in the playoff defeat to Nantes that denied the French side promotion.

Toulouse have an option to buy the 24-year-old and are still to make a final decision on the attacker ahead of his return to Celtic Park but club president Damien Comolli revealed to fans they intend to sign him.

The Ivorian joined Celtic for £2 million in 2019 when he signed a four-year deal from the Slovakian side Dunajska Streda.

He has made just nine league appearances in two seasons, failing to score a Premiership goal, before being loaned out to France last summer.

Toulouse club president Comolli, in a meeting with the club's supporters, revealed they hope to keep Bayo at the club.

He said: " Vakoun Bayo wants to stay with us and he has now received our proposal.

"Of the two other players we had on loan last season, the option to buy Brecht Dejaegere has been exercised, but on the other hand, Sebastien Dewaest will not return because his salary is too high."

French side Sochaux were linked with Bayo this month and Tunisian champions Esperance were also credited with an interest in the Ivory Coast international.

It remains to be seen if new boss Ange Postecoglou will be keen on giving him a second chance with limited options signed up in attack currently.
