Vakoun Bayo Celtic exit waiting game as Toulouse push forward with option to buy

Toulouse club president Damien Comolli has revealed the club have took up the option to buy on Celtic striker Vakoun Bayo.

The Ivorian striker has made just nine league appearances in two seasons, failing to score a Premiership goal, and was shipped out on loan to France last summer by former boss Neil Lennon.

He has impressed in Ligue 2 this term hitting 13 goals in 35 games this term despite struggling to hold down a regular spot.

The Ivorian joined Celtic for £2million in 2019 when he signed a four-year deal from the Slovakian side Dunajska Streda.

However, French outlet La Depeche report the option to buy will cost Les Violets around €3million.

After Philippe Montanier was unveiled as the new Toulouse boss, Comolli confirmed they hoped to complete the deal ahead of the 24-year-old's Celtic Park return.

He told the French media on Bayo: ”The ball is in his court, I await his response. But he's a player we would like to have in the squad.

"The option to buy was important for us. We are ready to sign him again but I do not know if it will be a loan or a transfer.

"I am awaiting an answer from him. I would very much like to count him in the squad."

The exit would leave new boss Ange Postecoglou limited with attacking options with the futures of Leigh Griffiths and Odsonne Edouard up in the air this summer.

Albian Ajeti remains at the club but struggled for form during his first campaign in Glasgow's east end.
