Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Turns 15, Becomes Eligible for India’s Senior Team

Sooryavanshi first grabbed global attention with his remarkable performances during his debut IPL season in 2025, where he received a record-breaking bid of Rs 1.1 crore. He quickly justified the hype, proving why he is regarded as one of India’s brightest emerging talents. In just his second IPL match, he stunned spectators with a sensational 100 off 35 balls, signaling the arrival of a future superstar.

Early Rise and Youth Career

Sooryavanshi’s rise to prominence began years earlier. At the age of 12, he was already dominating bowlers much older than him. However, age restrictions prevented him from making a senior debut despite his form. His performances in the U19 World Cup 2026, the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26, and the 2025 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy have further cemented his reputation as a prodigy. Now, with age no longer a barrier, he could soon be in contention for India’s senior men’s team.

ICC Eligibility Rules

According to the ICC Player Eligibility Regulations (Article 4), a player must be 15 years or older on the squad submission date for ICC events or on the date of the first match of a series or tournament for other international matches. These rules, introduced in November 2020, ensure the welfare and physical safety of minors participating in international cricket. With Sooryavanshi now meeting this age requirement, selectors can consider him for senior international duty.

Achievements at a Young Age

U19 World Cup 2026: Sooryavanshi was named Player of the Tournament, leading India to their sixth title and smashing an extraordinary 175 off 80 balls, including 15 sixes, in the final against England.

Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26: He became the youngest player to score a List A century at 14 years and 272 days, hitting 190 off 84 balls against Arunachal Pradesh and breaking AB de Villiers’ record for the fastest 150 in List A cricket.

Ranji Trophy 2025-26: Serving as vice-captain of Bihar at just 14, he narrowly missed becoming the youngest Ranji centurion, scoring 93 off 67 balls against Meghalaya.

Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025-26: Demonstrating maturity in white-ball cricket, he scored an unbeaten 108 and a well-paced fifty (50 off 34 balls) against Maharashtra.

Rising Stars Asia Cup (Doha): Representing India A, he recorded a whirlwind 144 off 42 balls against the UAE, showcasing his ability to dominate at every level.

The Road Ahead

With IPL 2026 around the corner, Sooryavanshi could soon make headlines as a member of India’s senior men’s team. The team is currently undergoing a transition in Test cricket, and selectors are likely monitoring his progress closely, especially after his performances against England U19 in England. Looking ahead to the 2028 Olympics and the upcoming T20 World Cup cycle, Sooryavanshi’s explosive talent could play a pivotal role in India’s resurgence.

For now, fans will be watching IPL 2026 with excitement, eager to see the 15-year-old prodigy continue his meteoric rise in Indian cricket.
