Vaclav Cerny has taken the decision to retire from international football.

The former Rangers loanee, linked with a potential return this summer, has 30 caps for Czechia but wasn't involved at the World Cup and hasn't featured since October last year.

He has hinted this summer's snub played a part in his decision bemoaning the fact he hasn't always been appreciated at international level.

Cerny told TRT Sport: “I made the decision to leave the national team. This is the first time I’m publicly announcing this decision.

“It was a difficult and painful process for me. It was a decision I’ve been thinking about for a while.

“I’ve played in more than 30 matches, I’ve shown my quality, but the appreciation toward me hasn’t been there from the start.

“The easiest choice for me was to say, ‘okay, now’s the right time, and I’ll fully focus on Besiktas’ because there are very important things I need to achieve here.”

The winger, 28, will now focus on club football where he plays for Besiktas after signing a year ago.

With Rangers looking to strengthen in the wide right area, there have been rumours of a swoop for Cerny. But new Besiktas boss Vincenzo Italiano is believed to see him as part of his plans.
