The Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly has confirmed that the vaccine registration portal will open for those aged 35 to 39 from Sunday.
Promises made by the Government to have 70% of eligible adults offered a Covid-19 vaccination by the end of the July are currently on track, with people aged 40 on over all receiving jabs over recent weeks.
And now, with a good chunk of those age groups protected at least partially, the rollout will move onto those aged between 35 and 39 from the weekend.
Mr Donnelly confirmed the news in a tweet on Thursday.
He said "Delighted to announce for some of you under 40s - the registration for a COVID-19 vaccine will open to those aged 35-39 on Sunday. Starting with those age 39, 38 on Monday and so on."
It comes as Ireland will administer a record number of Covid-19 vaccines this week, the HSE's Chief Executive has said.
Paul Reid said that we are set to have a record number of jabs - between 310,000 and 330,000 - given out to members of the public by Sunday.
Mr Reid explained that the HSE's decision to reduce the gap between AstraZeneca doses from 12 weeks to eight weeks for 450,000 people was made in a bid to curb the effect of the Delta variant, which has lead to a new surge in the UK.
He added that the HSE expects to have these people fully vaccinated by July 19.
Mr Reid added that we would see a "peak" in vaccine supplies over the next few weeks before it slows down again as the use of Johnson and Johnson and AstraZeneca jabs are limited for use on people aged 50 and over.
