BHOPAL: Ahead of the second mega drive of vaccination on August 25 and 26, the district administration is going all out to reach out to people, who have got the first dose of vaccination but have not turned up for the second dose.
On the first day of vaccination, dose will be given to both the people, who will be getting the jab for the first time and those, who will be administered the second dose but on the second day, the dose will only be administered to the latter. Phone calls are being made to people, who have not taken the second dose, and they are being asked whether they have taken the second dose and if yes, when and if they don't remember the date, the vaccination centre, where they have received the second jab.
“Me and my wife had taken the first dose of Covishield on April 3 and were supposed to take the second dose 84 days later. But then both of us contracted Covid and we were told by the doctors that we should get the second dose 90 days after we were declared negative. We got the second jab on August 19. By then, my wife had received query from Smart City office about the dose and I received a call from BMC asking whether I had taken the second dose,” said Raman Pandey, a resident of Gulmohar Colony.
In fact, there is a reason why the district administration at Bhopal and elsewhere are concerned over drastic drop in vaccination after the first dose. Data compiled by the district administration, Bhopal, based on vaccination figures as on August 16 makes the situation clearer.
The chart shows that even among health workers and front line workers, who were the first to receive the jab in the state, a 100 percent target was achieved for the first dose but for the second dose, A considerable chunk of people among them have stayed away from vaccination.
