Vaccination slowdown: 60 lakh yet to get booster shot in Madhya Pradesh

BHOPAL: There are more than 70 lakh beneficiaries who are eligible for getting precaution doses, but nearly 4 months on, only 9.6 lakh precaution doses have been administered in the state so far.

Precaution doses started in the state from January 10 and till April 6, only 9.69 lakh precaution doses were administered.

From March 7 to April 6, only 65,000 precaution doses have been administered even as there are 10.3 lakh frontline and health workers and 62 lakh in the 60+ group who got both the doses. Of these 9.69 lakh, majority shots were to frontline & health workers — 90%, to be exact. Thus, only a few thousand elderly in state have so far received precaution doses.

Sources said that only those people who have completed their second dose 39 weeks ago, are eligible. Thus, only who got both the shots 9 and a half months ago are eligible. Simply put, elderly who got both doses by June 2021 are eligible now. Those eligible for precaution dose who had now tested positive, will have to wait another three months for the precaution dose as per the protocol.
