Vaccination programme in West Lothian is expected to run until end of August

It has been revealed that the vaccination programme in West Lothian could last into August.

Nicola Sturgeon had first said she hoped to have everyone in Scotland vaccinated by July but the volunteer network Voluntary Sector Gateway West Lothian (VSGWL) say the roll out is expected to last until August.

VSGWL have put out an appeal for volunteers in West Lothian to assist with the mass vaccination programme. at the Pyramids in Bathgate.

Individuals will be asked to work a range of shifts, with the site open seven days a week, from 8am to 6.30pm each day up to the end of August.

The CEO at VSGWL, Alan McCloskey, explained: “As you will be aware, significant work is already underway to rollout the important vaccine to all adults across the country. The vaccine rollout programme is a huge logistical exercise and is expected to run through to the end of August.

“VSGWL is already working with officials at The Pyramids to help the mass vaccination rollout programme in West Lothian with the coordination of volunteering support.

“There has already been a fantastic response from individuals across West Lothian volunteering, however we have further opportunities to strengthen the onsite teams. We are seeking additional volunteers for meet and greet roles and in guiding people to the correct vaccination areas.”

The latest Public Health Scotland data shows that younger age groups are being vaccinated in West Lothian at the moment.

The tables show that 71 per cent of 40-49 year-olds have now been vaccinated with their first dose in West Lothian.

Just 29.6 per cent of 30-39 year-olds have had their first dose and 21.8 per cent of 18-29 year-olds.

Anyone who is interested in volunteering at the Pyramids in Bathgate is asked to email vsg@vsgwl.org
