The vaccination of medical workers had been completed in all 47 prefectures as of Friday, the minister in charge of Japan's vaccine rollout said Tuesday.
Taro Kono said at a Tuesday press conference that he had been informed of the shots' completion by Tokushima Gov. Kamon Iizumi, president of the National Governors' Association. In addition to overseeing the nation's vaccination efforts, Kono is also the minister in charge of administrative reform.
The vaccination of Japan's medical workers began in February, ahead of the inoculation of elderly people aged 65 or older.
According to a government tally, about 5.67 million medical workers and similar personnel had received two shots of vaccine against the novel coronavirus as of Tuesday.
The National Governors' Association said that as of Friday, the vaccination of medical workers had been completed in Hyogo Prefecture, the final prefecture to finish the inoculation of such staff.
