V&A's Christian Dior exhibition becomes museum's most popular ever show

The V&A’s Christian Dior exhibition has become its most popular ever — pulling in just short of 600,000 visitors in seven months.

Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams traced the history of the couturier and the fashion house he founded with hundreds of dresses on show alongside photographs, perfume and accessories.

The show, which opened in February and closed on Sunday, welcomed 594,994 visitors, surpassing the record set by the 2015 Alexander McQueen exhibition which attracted 480,000 visitors over its 21-week run. Its first sale of tickets sold out in just three weeks.

Director Tristram Hunt said: “In 1947 Christian Dior changed the face of fashion, creating a lasting legacy that continues to inspire today ...

“We knew that Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams would be popular, but we have been overwhelmed by the phenomenal visitor response since it opened in February.

“I would like to thank all our visitors who have gone to such great lengths to experience this extraordinary show.”
