UWE student using 3D printers to make masks for NHS crowdfunding to five times more

A University of West of England student is using his 3D printing skills to make potentially life-saving masks for NHS workers across Bristol.

Mike Rose has so far produced dozens of face shields but to help him expand he has now launched a Gofundme -which if successful will pay for 1,000 a month.

Designs used to create the PPE have already been tested and proven to work, Mike confrimed.

The UWE robotics student said it was a great time for 'hobbyists' to showcase what the new technology can achieve.

"Every day there are key workers, local health staff and members of the NHS going without essential PPE," said the 27-year-old..

"This equipment is vital to protect themselves whilst working with patients suffering from COVID-19; helping to flatten the curve of infection. "

Research conducted around the city has shown there is a severe shortage of PPE, according to Mike.

"We are a small start-up based in Filton, " said Mike. ""We have already started to produce some face shields for local GPs and key workers in Bristol, with enough material to produce nearly 200 masks, however, we have now come to a point where we can no longer self-fund and we need your help."

His fundraiser comes as the number of infected people in Bristol has risen to 211.

And NHS staff are now being tested for the deadly disease at drive-thru in the car park of Ashton Gate stadium.
