Uttarakhand: Udham Singh Nagar starts clearing ‘Amrit Sarovar’ ponds

RUDRAPUR: The Udham Singh Nagar district administration is removing encroachments on ponds identified under the central government's Amrit Sarovar mission, launched by PM Narendra Modi to conserve water.

In the past two months, the administration has removed 341 such encroachments over 150 acres of land and evicted hundreds of encroachers.

According to an estimate, there are 1,255 such encroachments in seven blocks of the district.

The chief development officer (CDO) of the district, Ashish Bhatgayi, told TOI that the administration aims to construct 75 ponds across the district. “Locals will be encouraged to start fisheries business with the help of various government schemes and grants," said Bhatgayi.
