Uttarakhand: Tourist dies after car falls into gorge near Mussoorie

MUSSOORIE: A 24-year-old New Delhi resident, Rajat Sachdeva, died after he lost control of the wheels and his car fell into a deep gorge on Mussoorie-Hathipaon road near Lambidhar, nearly eight kilometres from Mussoorie. His friend, 22-year-old Simran Bhardwaj, sustained critical injuries in the accident and is undergoing treatment at a Dehradun-based medical facility.

According to police, the two were going towards Dehradun on Monday morning after visiting Sir George Everest House when the vehicle veered off the road. Soon after the accident, police and fire department personnel launched a rescue operation. While Rajat died on the spot, Simran was rescued from the accident site. Girish Chandra Sharma, station officer, Mussoorie, told TOI, “Rajat and Simran lived in New Delhi’s Krishna Nagar colony. They worked together in a private company.” According to police, the duo had arrived in Mussoorie on Sunday. The autopsy will be conducted on Tuesday.
