Uttarakhand: Pithoragarh man strangles wife to death over dowry, arrested

PITHORAGARH: A 28-year-old man from Pithoragarh's Chandak area was arrested on Friday for allegedly strangulating his wife to death.

According to police, the accused, identified as Kishan Kumar, disposed of the body in a ravine and burnt it to erase all evidence that could link him to the crime.

The arrest was made after the victim’s mother Sunita Devi filed a complaint with police. The complaint states that Kumar would often torture his wife Anandi (24) for dowry.

Due to this, Anandi had been living with her mother for the past three months but Kumar picked her up on Wednesday and killed her the same night.

The two were married for five years. They have a three-year-old daughter as well.

Divulging further details, MC Pandey, station house officer, Pithoragarh police station,

“On Thursday morning, we were informed about a charred body that was found by locals in a ravine. Later in the day, we received an official complaint from Sunita Devi.”

He added, “We booked accused Kishan Kumar, a welder by profession, under section 304(B) (dowry death) of the Indian Penal Code.”
