Uttarakhand disaster toll goes up to 61

The death toll in the Chamoli disaster in Uttarakhand went up to 61 on Thursday. The identities of 34 bodies have been determined.

The search teams have so far recovered 28 human body parts from different places. The work of removing sludge and debris from the Tapovan hydel project tunnel is on.

A Defence Research and Development Organisation team, accompanied by Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) personnel, is on its way to inspect the lake formed close to Rounthi Gad after the floods. They reached the confluence of Rishiganga and Raunthi Gad from Muranda axis on Thursday. The officials would cross Rounthi Gad on Friday morning to inspect the lake side.

On Wednesday, ITBP personnel reached the Murenda lake formed after the recent floods. The team set up a base camp and also identified the location for a helipad.
