UTTARKASHI: At least three people died and a few others sustained injuries as a large amount of debris entered several houses on Sunday night following a cloud burst at Mando village in Uttarkashi.
Rescue teams are searching for three two-four people, who are feared to be buried under the debris.
The local administration has launched search and rescue works in the affected area as some people may still be under debris.
According to TOI sources, huge amounts of water and debris entered several houses of Mando village after incessant rainfall.
As the cloudburst happened in a matter of minutes, several people did not get a chance to escape and got buried under the debris.
Soon after getting information about the incident, the teams of local administration, SDRF, police and health department reached the spot and started a rescue operation. On Monday morning, rescue teams recovered three bodies from the debris.
The deceased have been identified as 42-year old Madhri Devi, 38-year-old Ritu and 6-year-old Ishu.
Meanwhile, district magistrate Mayur Dixit visited the affected areas with other officials and directed the restoration of basic facilities at the earliest.
He also directed officials to shift people from the affected area to safer places.
