Uttar Pradesh: Yogi govt 2.0’s 1st budget to be tabled on May 26

LUCKNOW: The Yogi Adityanath government 2.0 will table the first budget of this term on May 26, three days after UP Vidhan Sabha will be convened on May 23. Before the budget is tabled, the House proceedings will begin with the Governor’s address to the members of both the Vidhan Sabha and Vidhan Parishad on May 23 at 11 am.

The Budget this time is expected to be approximately around Rs 6 lakh crore as there had been a 20% increase in the size last fiscal compared to fiscal before.

Besides, there are other firsts too, as the House would begin proceedings. This would be the first time when former chief minister Akhilesh Yadav would be in the House as the Leader of Opposition. This has brought excitement among the Opposition members.

The Governor’s address is likely to begin on a stormy note with principal Opposition Samajwadi Party and its alliance partners with largest bench strength of 125 led by Akhilesh Yadav chalking out strategy to counter ruling BJP’s claims.

Replying to a question on the Governor's address being disrupted, Samajwadi Party leader Rajendra Chaudhary said that disrupting the Governor’s address should not be seen as creating pandemonium as the voice of the Opposition is the people’s voice. If the Opposition is not raising its voice, then the people would begin questioning the Opposition, he added.

Now that Akhilesh Yadav is the leader of the Opposition and the SP and its alliance partners have got over 3 crore people’s vote, the ruling BJP would have to answer to the people’s worries, he said.

Sources said that Opposition is chalking out strategy to take on the ruling BJP on increasing number of rape cases in the state, poor law and order situation in the state at several places and price rise and unfair recruitment leaving several candidates without jobs.

Interestingly, this would also be the first time when the House proceedings would be digital with all the members being provided a tablet fixed on their allocated seats. This would also be the first time when each member would be allocated a seat in his name.

Coming to the budget, Chaudhary said that this is the same government which would be tabling its 6th budget. “There is nothing new in it. Neither has there been a decrease in unemployment nor has there been relief for people from price hikes. They had promised to double the income of the farmers but what has happened, nothing,” he said.

The government should come out with a white paper on what has been done, Chaudhary demanded.

As per the business advisory, after the Governor’s address on May 23, discussion on vote of thanks on Governor’s address would begin on May 24. On May 26, the budget would also be tabled.

Discussion on the budget would begin from May 28 and would also be done on May 30 and May 31 before the budget being passed on May 31.

The government is also likely to table four ordinances that have been notified, including Bhatkhande Sanskrit University ordinance among others.
