PRAYAGRAJ: The women inmates lodged in Kaushambi district jail are nowadays seen sporting the latest hairdos and make-up. The reason is that a batch of 12 inmates is undergoing training as a beautician and hairstylist and are trying their hands on fellow inmates.
The women inmates in jail undergo training in tailoring, embroidery and jewellery-making so that they can become self-reliant after their release.
The training course for beautician and hair stylist was started lately following increasing demand for it from some inmates.
The training is conducted in the district jail premises and the inmates have been learning threading, facial, manicure, pedicure, waxing and hairstyling, latest haircuts and colouring techniques. As many as 12 inmates are undergoing training in the first batch.
Superintendent of Kaushambi district jail, Rakesh Singh told TOI, “Some inmates had expressed interest in beautician and hairstyling courses, so it has been started. This training would help them become self-reliant when they are released.”
The training is held for two hours every day under the banner of Kaushal Vikas Yojana. The inmates will be awarded a training completion certificate and can join any beauty parlour or start one of their own.
There are a total of 41 women inmates at Kaushambi district jail, and 12 others are undergoing training in tailoring, said officials.
Jail authorities have invited master trainers from outside for conducting the training for women inmates in job-oriented courses.
We try to ensure that the women inmates learn some skills that can help them in rehabilitation after their release from jail and they can earn and lead a respectable life.
The authorities are also planning to offer two more courses in cosmetology for women prisoners.
