Uttar Pradesh: Woman gang-raped for month, 7 booked

BAREILLY: A 38-year-old woman, a mother of six, has alleged that she was on her way to a temple in a bus when she was abducted in Budaun district’s Alapur area on July 1 and repeatedly gangraped for almost a month. She somehow managed to escape on August 3 and filed a police complaint.

An FIR was registered against seven accused at Alapur police station on Monday under sections 366 (abduction) and 376d (gang rape). Out of the seven, four have been detained for questioning. Police said the victim was sent for medico-legal examination on Tuesday and will be produced before a magistrate to record her statement on Wednesday.

Divulging details about the incident, SHO Alapur Sanjay Singh told TOI, “The woman in her complaint said that she was going to Patna Devkali temple in Shahjahanpur to offer prayers in a bus, where she met a few people who said that they were also going to the same temple. When the bus halted at Alapur area, they forced her to de-board with them and took her to a confined place and raped her. Later, she was forcefully taken to another place where more people joined them and raped her.”

“On the basis of her statement, we have detained a few persons and are questioning them. Further action will be taken as per the statement recorded by the complainant in the court, “Singh added.(The victim's identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
