Uttar Pradesh: Two communities clash during idol immersion in Mahoba, 3 held

JHANSI: Tension prevailed in Srinagar police station area of Uttar Pradesh's Mahoba district when two communities clashed over playing of colours during Durga idol immersion procession on Tuesday.

However, police deployed near the spot immediately acted by detaining three from the spot.

Superintendent of Police, Mahoba, Aparna Gupta, said that dispute broke out between two communities while taking the idol for immersion in the main market of Srinagar police station in Mahoba.

The officer said that prima facie it has appeared that colours were thrown on a person belonging to another community by a girl from the group of those going for immersion.

"The irate man along with aides allegedly thrashed the girl which drew attention of those going for immersion and they also intervened leading to a brawl," said Gupta.

However, cops deployed at the crossing rushed and pacified the groups.

"Based on eye witnesses statement an FIR was registered against eight from which three have been detained, efforts to nab others is being made," said SO, Srinagar, Praveen Singh.

Thereafter procession continued its march for immersion.
