Uttar Pradesh: 'Superman' RPF constable saves elderly woman from being run over by train at Lalitpur station

LUCKNOW: Due to retire in 18 months, head constable Kamlesh Kumar Dubey (59) never in his 33-year service in Railway Protection Force experienced a heart stopping moment until Saturday morning when he pulled up a septuagenarian woman passenger from a railway track in fraction of second before a speeding Madhya Pradesh Sampark Kranti Express at Lalitpur junction.

CCTV footage of the incident went viral on social media, earning him the "Superman" title.

The incident took place at around 3.03am and Dubey was on night duty.

Speaking exclusively to TOI over phone, Dubey said: "I was at platform 2 and 3, when I saw elderly women heading towards a secluded area of the station through a railway track after alighting from the platform. I objected to their movement, but they didn’t pay heed to my appeal. Couple of minutes later, the women started walking back towards platform 2 by crossing the railway track and again I objected, as Madhya Pradesh Sampark Kranti Express was about to pass via station. The women didn’t listen to me. While one managed to climb the platform, the other septuagenarian was still on track."

"I rushed to the edge of the platform and used all my strength to pull her up. She was saved by a fraction of second. During the act, my training of RFP helped me to maintain stability on the platform while the speeding express train passes and I managed to hold the woman," said Dubey, who is father of four children.

Head Constable Kamlesh Kumar Dubey hails from Magarpur village of Jhansi district.

The rescued woman was identified as Ramsakhi Tiwari who is a resident of Chhatarpur district in Mashya Pradesh.

She was heading to Haridwar with her family, but her train Kalinga Utkal express was delayed by several hours and she went for loo along with her sister-in-law after crossing the railway track at Lalitpur junction.
