AGRA: At least three persons including two AMU employees were killed and four others were grievously injured when an allegedly drunk truck driver ran them over in Aligarh on Sunday morning.

The dead were identified as Mohammad Sabir, a lab assistant in Optholmology department in AMU, Munne Khan attendant in the varsity and 12-year-old Farhan. Sabir’s wife Praveen’s condition is critical and admitted in a hospital. Proctor of the university Prof Wasim Ali confirmed the death of the two employees.

Police said that they got information that a truck driver had hit a couple riding on a bike in Kawarsi police jurisdiction. After five minutes around 11:30 am the same truck mowed down two others including the minor boy in Civil Lines area.

Circle officer Shwetabh Pandey told TOI that the truck driver has been arrested. He was drunk and was trying to escape after hitting the bike when the second mishap took place. He ran over some road side shops including a fruit seller’s cart while taking a speedy turn.

He said two FIRs will be registered as two accidents were reported under two police stations limit.
