PRAYAGRAJ: The Samajwadi Party (SP) MLA from Raniganj assembly seat of Pratapgarh district, Dr Rakesh Kumar Verma, his brother and some supporters were booked for damaging the wall of an under-construction government engineering college at village Shivsat.
They have also been accused of threatening the engineers and labourers at the construction site and obstructing the government work.
On a complaint filed by the project manager of Noida based firm, Mohd Irshad Ahmad, an FIR under section 147 (rioting), 504 (breach of peace), 506 (criminal intimidation), 427 (damage) and 353 (criminal force to deter public servant) of IPC and section 2 and 3 of Prevention of damage to public property Act was registered against the MLA, his brother and several others with Kandhai police station of Pratapgarh district on Saturday night.
The project manager alleged that on June 23, the Raniganj MLA along with his supporters damaged the wall of the under-construction college in village Shivsat.
The MLA also made a video and made it viral on social media, he said.
“When the employees and labourers working there raised objections, the MLA and his supporters threatened them of dire consequences,” he said adding, due to the incident more than 40 labourers left the work site.
Earlier, the MLA, questioning the quality of the construction, pushed a portion of the newly-constructed wall following which, it collapsed.
A video of the act went viral on social media.
The police said that were probing the charges and action would be initiated accordingly.
