Google CEO Sundar Pichai and three of his colleagues were named in an FIR lodged at Varanasi in connection with a defamatory video, but their names were later dropped as the police did not find any evidence against them, a senior police officer said on Friday.
Mr. Pichai, Google India Director Kenneth Hoi Wai, Google India Supervisor Sanjay Kumar Gupta and Google India Private Limited (unknown person) were among 18 persons booked in an FIR lodged at the Bhelupur police station on a complaint by a local resident Girija Jaiswal. The accused were charged under Sections 504, 506, 500 (defamation) and 120b (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC and Section 67 of the Information Technology Act, said the police officer.
During the investigation, “no confirmatory evidence” was found against the Google executives, including Mr. Pichai, said Varanasi SSP Amit Pathak. The officer said investigation against the other 14 would continue.
Among those named in the FIR are Ghazipur-based musicians who allegedly made the video, a recording studio and a local music label company.
