LUCKNOW: Two weeks after a 53-year-old government doctor was beaten to death over a land dispute in Uttar Pradesh's Sultanpur, police on Monday arrested main accused Ajay Narayan Singh, who was on the run and a reward of Rs 50,000 was announced on any information leading to his arrest.
Earlier, police had demolished an office which the accused, Ajay Narayan Singh (35), had allegedly constructed over government land.
Superintendent of police, Sultanpur, Somen Barma said that Ajay along with his driver Deepak was arrested from city Kotwali crossing while trying to flee.
"We have also arrested Vijay Narayan, a relative of Ajay, from Rajasthan", he said.
Apart from the murder case against Ajay, police had also registered two FIRs against him (Ajay) and his relatives for encroaching government land (measuring 0.459 hectare and 0.266 hectare) in Miranpur area of Kotwali police station area.
On September 23, Tiwari, was allegedly thrashed by Ajay, a local resident. Later, the attackers sent Tiwari home in an e-rickshaw. Tiwari was taken to Sultanpur district hospital where he was pronounced dead.
