AGRA: Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday launched a scathing attack on previous governments led by the Bahujan Samaj Party and the Samajwadi Party over the alleged "mafia raj" and said that the state was "plagued by criminals." Blaming the parties for "sympathising with the mafia", Yogi praised his government for "running bulldozers over their illegal properties." He also alleged that previous governments had done nothing for farmers and for the safety of women. He made these comments while he was addressing a public meeting in the Jalesar sub-division of Etah district.
"Be it Congress, SP, or the BSP, they had no sympathy for the poor, farmers, or medium and small enterprises (MSMEs). They did not do anything for them, did not waive farmers' debts, did not build toilets or houses for the poor, and did not provide health care facilities either. Their sympathy only lay with mafias and criminals. Have you not seen the government's bulldozer run over such mafias and criminals after 2017? Their wealth has been seized," he said. He called the 2022 elections in UP "decisive" and then posed the "curfew or kanwar yatra" question. He claimed that the kanwar yatra was stopped during SP rule and said that his government restarted it.
Lauding his government's efforts to tackle the pandemic, he said, "Through great management, the state has put the 'jinn' of Covid-19 inside a bottle in such a way that thousands are gathered at the spot for the rally and the virus is nowhere to be found." The CM targeted Yadav's statement of "not trusting the BJP vaccine" and said that the "same vaccine is saving the lives of people."
