Uttar Pradesh: No woman MLA from Firozabad in 70 years

AGRA: Since independence, no woman candidate has won from any of the assembly segments in Firozabad district, known for its bangle and glass industry.

No woman candidate was able to secure the second position, except for Jasrana constituency in 17 assembly elections held over the past seven decades.

This time, Congress has given the party ticket to three woman candidates and BSP one. Congress has fielded party worker Shashi Sharma from Shikohabad seat, Pratimapal from Sirsaganj seat and Yogesh Diwakar from Tundla (SC) seat.

BSP has fielded Shazia Hasan, wife of former SP MLA Azeem Bhai, on Firozabad Sadar seat. Both SP and BJP have no woman candidate.
