Uttar Pradesh: Newly wed woman murdered by her husband in Agra

AGRA: In a bizarre love story with a brutal end, a 25-year-old newly married woman died after her husband allegedly slashed her throat multiple times and then smothered her to prove to his girl friend that he was still committed to her. The brutal murder took place in Agra’s Nagla haveli locality on Sunday.

The woman, Preeti was allegedly murdered by her husband, Upendra Singh in connivance with two women including his girl friend, Monika Bhardwaj.

Police said that Preeti had married five months ago on December 11 last year. Upendra’s father informed the police about the murder of his daughter-in-law on Sunday morning. Upendra was arrested on Sunday while his women accomplice were nabbed on Monday.

During interrogation, Upendra admitted his relationship with Monika, who was earlier working in Jaipur and had later shifted to her home town Agra. He did not want to marry Preeti but his family forced him to do so.

Monika told the police that she was in relationship with Upendra for the past six years but his family did not accept their relation. After marriage, Upendra was assuring her to divorce his wife but he was not doing so.

When Monika had shown her displeasure over Upendra’s reaction, he promised that he would kill his wife. Monica even threatened to kill herself if he did not end Preeti’s life.

On Saturday, Upendra called Monica to his house and he told her that he would kill his wife in front of her. Monika had gone to Upendra’s house with her friend Pallavi.

Preeti’s throat was slashed multiple times and when she did not die, Upendra smothered her with a pillow after her legs and hands were held by the two women.

SSP Sudhir Kumar Singh said that Upendra has been arrested and an FIR has been registered against him and his relatives under IPC section 304 B (dowry death) on the basis of a complaint filed by the victim’s family members. Further investigations are on.
