AGRA: An assistant sales manager of a private life insurance company, Prashant Saxena, 32, who was allegedly thrashed with a baseball bat three days ago, succumbed to injuries on Monday evening in a private hospital in Agra. One of the three accused was arrested and remanded to judicial custody on Tuesday.
Police claimed that the victim was known to the accused and used to roam around together. Last week on Saturday, some verbal argument took place among them which led to a clash and one of the suspects, Honey Baghel allegedly, hit Saxena on his head with a baseball bat.
When the victim fell on the ground, local residents gathered there and caught Baghel and handed him over to police while the other two managed to escape from there. The victim’s family members alleged that the trio had tried to snatch Prashant’s salary and they attacked him when he resisted.
A video of the incident which went viral on social media shows Baghel surrounded by residents, who assaulted him for beating the young man who was lying unconscious after the attack.
Saxena was taken to SN Medical college from where he was referred to a private hospital. He was put on a ventilator as his condition was serious.
Saxena’s brother-in-law Avnish Mawar told media persons that Prashant got a job just a few months ago and he was carrying his salary when he was attacked by the three men. He added that the FIR was registered on the next day of the incident and the victim’s body was received by them on Tuesday after post mortem.
Station house officer of Sadar police station, Dharmendra Dahiya told TOI that the FIR was registered under section 307 (attempt to murder) and section 302 (murder) has been added after death of the victim. He said, one of the accused has been sent to judicial custody after being produced before the court today. A manhunt has been launched to arrest other accused.
