Uttar Pradesh: Man, 55, thrashed for 'chanting religious slogans’ in Aligarh

Agra: A 55-year-old man was allegedly thrashed by some men for purportedly chanting “religious slogans” outside his house in Aligarh’s Sarai Kale Khan under Sasni gate police limits on Wednesday. An FIR has been registered and a man arrested in the case, Aligarh SSP, Kalanidhi Naithani said, adding that "it was probably a fallout of a clash between two neighbours".

The complainant, Dinesh Kumar, alleged that he was "chanting slogans when some people from the area spat on him". When he protested, the man claimed that he was beaten up and suffered injuries on the head and near his left eye.

The SSP further said, "The injured man was sent for medical checkup. An FIR has been registered against two people under IPC sections 307 (attempt to murder), 504 (intentional insult), 506 (criminal intimidation) and sections of the SC/ST Act at Sasni Gate police station on a complaint filed by the victim."

Soon after the incident, some right-wing activists also reached the local police station, demanding registration of FIR and arrest of the accused.
