LUCKNOW: The operator of Chaudhary Charan Singh International and Domestic Airport has issued advisory for passengers following political leaders' movement into the city via Lucknow airport for the second day.
Through the advisory issued on Wednesday evening, the authority has asked passengers to "contact respective airlines and reconfirm flight schedules at least three to four hours prior" leaving for the airport.
Speaking on anonymity, an official source of Lucknow airport said, “Considering the upcoming state election, we expect continuous VIP movement via Lucknow airport which will attract a crowd. Therefore, to be on the safer side, we have advised passengers to be in touch with their airlines hours before leaving for the airport.”
On Wednesday, due to the movement of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and other senior leaders of the party, the local police placed barricades on roads outside the airport premises and checked every vehicle to stop party workers from getting into airport premises.
However, unmoved by law-enforcement forces' preventive measures, scores of Congress party workers managed to escape near arrival and departure terminal gates and staged protest amid a dharna by Rahul Gandhi, along with Chhattisgarh chief minister Bhupesh Baghel, party general secretary K C Venugopal and Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi at Lucknow airport demanding to travel Sitapur in their vehicles.
On Tuesday too, several Congress party workers, including women, had staged a protest inside the airport premises after the Chattisgarh was denied entry into Lucknow.
