Uttar Pradesh govt has turned a blind eye towards dengue, viral cases: Akhilesh Yadav

LUCKNOW: Accusing the ruling BJP of trying to turn a blind eye to the increasing number of dengue and viral fever cases reported from different districts of the state, Samajwadi Party national president Akhilesh Yadav on Monday said the government is sticking to its ‘all is well claim’ even as children have died of dengue fever in west UP and now the problem is spreading to other parts of the state.

Akhilesh said the government has been boasting repeatedly that the state was prepared to handle the third wave of Covid-19, but the pathetic handling of dengue and viral fever patients at government facilities has only exposed the government. “If this is the level of primary treatment at hospitals, one can imagine how prepared the government is,” he said.

“Hospitals are crowded with patients suffering from fever. Dengue has claimed lives of hundreds of children in west UP districts. Now it is spreading to eastern parts of the state. Even in Lucknow the increasing number of patients at hospitals is triggering a crisis situation. This is primarily because stocks of essential medicines have dried up and patients are being turned away at hospitals,” Akhilesh said.

The former UP CM said the situation is particularly bad in Firozabad, Mathura, Mainpuri, Kanpur and Farrukhabad where the fever has led to panic among people. “Mothers who have lost their children are the truth which cannot be concealed under publicity campaigns highlighting the government's achievements. In Mathura a man fell on the feet of government officials begging them to get his ailing child treated at hospital. Another physically challenged woman was shown the door when she approached the hospital staff with his ailing infant child,” Akhilesh said.
